Went down to Montgomery County for this clean-up. Tyler Sacks came along for this one, Green Lane Park is not that far from his house and neither one of us have explored a whole lot of the trails there. We started at an access neither one of us had been to before and hit the trails. I have found that generally around lakes like this the majority of trash to be found is along the lake shore, so we worked our way down to the lake and followed one of the lakeside trails.
Compared to other parks Green Lane is fairly clean. There was trash here and there, still not as much as I really expected.
On this trail this was the most trash found in a single spot. I was amazed that this was it. Here there were only three items. Yes, in some cases you even have to look into the trees.
Near the lake this Tiger Swallowtail was feeding on a thistle flower.
Taking a trail that was away from the lake back to the car, this White-Tailed doe peaked out to give us a look.
We did put a good amount of time hoofing it on the trails. Like I said this area really wasn't that bad. Not even a full bag at this location. From here we drove over to the main recreation area in a different portion of the park. The thinking was, more people, more trash.
I have done clean-ups at in this area of the park before and I did pick up a fair amount. This time it was much like the other area of the park and was relatively clean.
We followed the lake down to the Perkiomen Creek and then took trails down stream. The path along the stream had more trash than the lakeshore. Some incredibly stinky items as well. Including bag with two nearly full chicken liver containers in it.
This was all for the second location. Thank you very much to Tyler Sacks for help with this clean-up. We didn't pick up all that much, but Green Lane Park was cleaner after our visit.
You too can help with taking out the trash! If you get out hiking take a grocery bag with you, give it a second use and fill it with trash while you are out! Every bit helps. You can also help contributing to this project here: Help Fund Taking Out the Trash
