This hike was a little over four miles and I found it to be pretty cool that this was it as far as trash. The Fireline Trail was extremely clean compared to most trails around here. This Trail is not easy to get to from the main parking areas at Mauch Chunk Lake Park and the access I used today is hidden down a one way road. This limited access may be why there is so little trash here, but it was a nice break.
The start of the Fireline Trail. This trail does not loop, but does connect with the Shoreline and Switchback Trails at the bottom of the mountain.
There are no outlooks or standout features on this trail, it is pretty much just a strait path threw a deciduous forest on a mountaintop.
These shelf fungus were about the most interesting thing on the hike. Surprisingly did see some butterflies too, but was unable to get a photo.
From Fireline, I cut down to the Shoreline Trail and across the dam on Mauch Chunk Lake. A very clear sky, not used to seeing that.
I don't believe Daniel Boone would have appreciated his name printed on garbage littered in the woods. Well, he probably wouldn't appreciate much of what the US has become.
I ended the hike on the lowest portion of the Switchback Trail. More than half the trash on the trip was collected on its sides. This area is easily accessible and has lots of visitors and generally lots of trash. It was cleaner than a lot of other times I have walked it.
You too can help with taking out the trash! If you get out hiking take a grocery bag with you, give it a second use and fill it with trash while you are out! Every bit helps. You can also help contributing to this project at: gofundme.com/takingoutthetrash
